I learned something profound at church about faith in business. This analogy can be applied to so many things in our lives!
Faith in Business
The speaker started talking about having faith and also having knowledge and how they go together.
She explained it with an analogy about a heart surgeon.
A heart surgeon was performing a heart surgery. All of a sudden, in the middle of the surgery, he received inspiration… “Oh, wait. I should do this instead.” He changed his method a little bit and performed the other task. The surgery was successful and nothing went wrong.
The surgeon had that little bit of inspiration to change his technique; change what he was doing in the middle of the heart surgery.
What does this have to do with faith and knowledge?
You could go into being a heart surgeon with total faith, total belief that you are going to be the best heart surgeon on the planet. But, if you don’t get the knowledge, tools and techniques from medical school and mentors…
If the heart surgeon hadn’t learned that technique, he wouldn’t have had that inspiration no matter how much faith he had, because he wouldn’t have known what to do.
This is how the teacher put it…
“A man with just faith can be a great man, but not a great heart surgeon.”
This analogy can be applied to anything in life if you think about it.
Faith in Business – Knowledge AND Faith in Business
We can apply this analogy to faith in business. Let’s say that you start this home based business and you go at it with full force. You know where you are going and you believe that it is going to happen. All of a sudden, a road block gets in your way and you don’t know how to adapt.
For instance, YouTube shuts you down and you don’t know what to do; or you are trying to make some sales, but you don’t know how to market.
How can you get around this? Start learning specialized knowledge. Start reading good books. Start following a mentor; following someone that has done it before. That is what I did!
When I first got started, I saw someone that was generating leads. I knew I needed to be generating leads, so I asked myself, “What is this guy doing to generate leads?” I would learn. You want to learn your craft.
Whatever your business is, you want to learn how to generate leads, you want to learn how to recruit, and you want to learn how to get sales. You also have to believe and have faith that it will work. If you just have one or the other, you are not going to hit your goals.
You have got to have faith in business AND the knowledge on how to do it.
When you have specialized knowledge, faith will provide the inspiration you need to overcome road blocks. “Oh wait, I should do this instead…” and you will continue down the path without slowing down.
