People are programmed for progress and improvement. There seems to be a natural longing to be better, do more and accomplish much. Even during historical periods where thinking was stymied, controlled or shutdown, some individuals simply could not be silenced or stilled. In 1820 the United States government even went so far as to closed the patent office issuing the statement that everything that can be invented had been invented, therefore the office was no longer needed! Imagine if everyone had listened to that statement rather than continuing to respond to their inner wisdom which continued to declare, “More is possible.”
Your inner wisdom, providing insight, ideas and inspiration truly is like any other muscle or ability in your body – in that you must use it or lose it. You see those who have either given up on life, or given up on themselves, the unhappy who have decided to merely play out the string, submitting to mediocrity and just surviving day to day have stopped responding to their inner wisdom. In truth, happiness ends when you stop listening to your inner wisdom.
Many have suggested having a pen and paper or recording device next to your bed or nightstand so when your inner wisdom flashes its brilliance or bestows strokes of inspiration you will be able to capture them. Capturing is important, but it is not enough – in order to strengthen your inner wisdom you must act on it!
Nothing is more important to your long-term success and happiness, success and satisfaction than you ability to tap into, leverage and deploy your inner wisdom. It is rarely discussed in school, never taught in business and yet it holds the keys for innovation, excellence and high achievement.
How in tune are you with your inner wisdom? When was the last time you recognized it? More importantly, when was the last time you followed it? Inner wisdom is another reason to slow down and disconnect from the fast-paced world we live in. Scheduling quiet time should be a priority for everyone at every stage of life and season of business or place on their career path. Your inner wisdom rarely comes at you with flashing lights, blaring trumpets or crashing cymbals – rather it comes quietly, in silent moments of contemplation and reflection.
Take time this weekend to listen to your inner wisdom – strengthen that muscle and the rest of your success will increase!
