This is how I retired myself from the military after 12 years.
For those of you that don’t know my background…
I have been in the military since May 15, 2001 and yesterday was my ETS. If you don’t know what ETS is, it just means that I am done.
Yesterday was my last day in the Army, 12 years later. The Expiration date on my official military ID card reads: May 14, 2013.
So, what does this mean to me? Why is this important to me?
How I Retired Myself from the Military after 12 Years
There are some people that are saying, “Why don’t you stick around? You’re over the hump. You’ve served eight years. You just need eight more and then you’ll have your 20 year retirement. You are going to lose a ton of benefits if you get out.”
They are right, I am going to have to pay a lot more for medical insurance.
While I was in the Army, my insurance was $200 a month for my entire family, and there was a $1000 cap every year. Literally, it didn’t cost us anything to have our babies. It hasn’t cost us anything for any of our medical. It was great insurance.
People can’t believe I am willing to lose those benefits.
Why am I getting out?
This home based business is how I retired myself from the military after 12 years!
What is significant about yesterday is that this was the last thing that I was really holding on to that stopped me from being truly free.
We fight for freedom in the Army, which is amazing. I am very proud to have served for 12 years. I went on three tours of duty. Two tours were to Iraq. I’ve been to Bulgaria, Germany, Ireland… I have been to a lot of different countries and places in the United States as I have trained.
I wanted to get out, because every few years I was deployed. I almost missed my daughter’s birth. This is how I retired myself from the military after 12 years, any why I wanted retirement so badly.
How I Retired Myself from the Military after 12 Years
I remember talking to my commander about my wife being nine months pregnant. I wanted to know if I was going to be able to go home on leave to be there for her birth. The answer I got was, “I don’t know!”
I finally got approved to go home for a four day leave so that I could see my daughter be born. On the fourth day, my wife hadn’t had the baby yet. I called the Army officer and asked for an extension. It took a while for them to get it approved. They finally came back and agreed to extend my leave for four more days. On the fourth day, the doctors induced labor and I saw my daughter be born. The next day I was on a flight, and I was gone. Later, I was on a deployment again and I missed my daughter’s first steps. I missed her first words.
Fortunately, I have been present for the birth of each of my children. I am very thankful for that.
Here is what is beautiful. Because of the home based business that we have been able to build, because of what we have here, I don’t ever have to worry about missing out again. Our home based business is how I retired myself from the military.
We have a seven month old boy right now. I’m not going to have to worry about missing his first steps or words. I won’t miss his karate classes or school projects when he is older.
I am truly free. My ID card has expired. I am retired after 12 years. This is an exciting thing! Our home based business is the secret to how I retired myself from the military.
Now we are going to have to pay for expensive health care. It is $500 to $1000 just to get your kids immunized these days! I am going to have to pay that out of pocket now because we won’t have that awesome insurance, but…
We have the ability to do it! This business has allowed us to have that freedom. I am not doing it for the money, I am doing it for the freedom. I am helping others become free as well!
