In this video tutorial, I show you how to move iPhone Video Files to MAC for editing.
How to Move iPhone Video Files to MAC
The other day I had some issues trying to get my video file off of my iPhone onto my Mac computer.
All I wanted to do is take the video file off my phone and put it in Screenflow to edit before uploading to the internet. I haven’t been doing a lot of videos from my phone because I didn’t know how to make the transfer. I finally sat down and figured it out and sure enough, it is very simple.
- First, connect the iPhone to the MAC computer through the USB cable.
- Go down to the finder area and click on “Applications.”
- Choose “Image Capture” and open it up.
- Select your iPhone, find your file and click import.
- Import the video file to a folder on your computer.
- Open Screenflow and insert the file that you imported for editing.
Now I can edit my iPhone video inside Screenflow and add call outs and text. Screenflow converts the size of the file automatically without using additional conversion software (like HandBrake) and allows me to upload to Facebook, YouTube or Vimeo.

While there are features on the iPhone that allow you to upload directly to internet sites, I find that it is less effective. The files are usually really big. I have lost videos when the upload failed. The Facebook app also doesn’t work very well when trying to upload directly from the iPhone.
Now that know how to move iPhone video files to MAC, I will do a lot more videos on my iPhone.
If you don’t already have an iPhone, I suggest you get one. You can write it off for business expenses! Think of all the conference calls you are on. I use my iPhone more for business than I do for my personal life. (Get with your tax professional for advice.)
Besides, it gives you an excuse to get this great technology, a True Tone camera. You can put an iPhone in your pocket and you won’t have to lug around a heavy camera at events.
iPhone Video Tip:
Have you ever noticed how difficult it is to hold the phone and start your video with the camera button? The coolest feature on your iPhone is that you can start your video with the volume buttons!
The iPhone is my favorite video tool. Get out there and make it happen!
