Who are you going to help this Christmas season?
The Power of Giving
With Christmas right around the corner, I thought, what better subject to talk about than the power of giving?
Giving has played a huge role in my life. On the receiving end, when I was really struggling and didn’t have a lot of money, I had people come and help me. People helped me with food and the things that we needed.
I vowed that when I have the opportunity to help someone else, I was going to, and I have been able to do that.
I can tell you the blessings…
If you don’t want to call them blessings, then the universe has paid me back ten-fold from every time that I’ve ever given.
The caveat to all of this:
You never want to give with the expectation of return.
I know some people that pay tithing to their church with an expectation that everything is going to be okay and that they are going to make a lot of money. You never want to do that. You always want to give with the expectation of no return and that is when you really reap the benefits. Give from the love of your heart, not just because you want to get something.
Don’t give selfishly is what I mean.
This principle has helped me a ton in my life. It has helped a lot of people that we know.
The Power of Giving
One other thing that I want to talk about in the power of giving…
Maybe give this year without bragging about it. I think there is a scripture in the Bible about it. You never want to go out there and say, “Hey, look. I helped this family. Everybody praise me.”
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” ~ Matthew 6:1-4
I was even a little hesitant to use this as a subject, because I didn’t want people to think that I was bragging that I give. That is not the purpose of this message.
The purpose of this post is to maybe inspire you to get out there and do something special for someone this year during Christmas. Maybe pick a family and do something special for them without the expectation of return and without bragging about it to anyone.
I believe if I can get as many people as possible to do that this year, then I have done my part in getting this message out to you.
If you would like to share an experience that you have had with giving (or receiving), I look forward to reading about it in the comments below.
