I had an interesting conversation with a team mate today that I just couldn't keep to myself. In our company, ROI Unlimited, we have a comp plan that allows you to earn money even if you choose not to sponsor anyone. Now, of course you aren't going to earn enough to quit a job without sponsoring but you can earn some money.
In ROI Unlimited you start on the 4th row with 8 positions waiting to be filled and work your way up until you are on row 1. When all your rows have filled up and you are in the top spot, you “cycle” and earn $500. Here is the situation. This team mate is at the very top of his “driver board” and has only 2 slots left to fill in order for him to cycle. There are 13 people plus myself working to fill those final slots. Normally, you would think this person would be incredibly excited about that and want to do all that they could and get the work done. Right? In a conversation, I referenced these last 2 slots out to which he replied, “Oh yeah I saw that. Maybe I'll cycle this week!” Okkkkayyyy….I told him there was no maybe about it, YOU ARE GOING TO CYCLE! ha ha. Then he went on to tell me, “Well, once I get the $500 I might be more inspired to work.” Really? Wow. Keep in mind this is someone I have known personally for over 2 years. He is currently struggling to make any real money the last couple years, but can you see why?
Here are some points to take away from this conversation:
#1 – Don't use negative self defeating language like: Maybe, I might, I'll try, I can't, I'm too old, ect… It only hurts you more. You will never see a leader earning a 6-figure income using self defeating language…
#2 – This person is going to earn $500 no matter what he does. If he chooses to do nothing he will earn it, but if he chooses to work he will not only earn $500 but possibly $5,000 or even $20,000… He is not 3 feet from gold, more like 3 inches in front of it. Yet it's like he is saying “I don’t have any way to carry this gold home so I'll take this little pebble I can stick in my pocket ($500) and leave the rest here for someone else.”
The crazy part is we all see it, we all know about it, but are we taking the pebble, or finding a wheelbarrow?
I choose to find the wheelbarrow and take the gold. I also encourage you to take this story to heart, encourage your team to always keep going, encourage your team to use positive language. I will always support this person 100% of the time, I will always be there for him when he is ready to receive the gold, but until he reaches out and takes it, it won't happen.
Don’t stop 3 feet (or 3 inches) from gold in your Network Marketing Business!
