Craigslist Tips #1 – Do Image Ads
One of the biggest reasons Craigslist will ghost you is because of duplicate content. People copy other peoples ads, or they copy and paste ads from a training they learned and they wonder why their ads don't stay on Craigslist. You may be able to get away with duplicate ads a couple times but it will not go very far for long…
So the solution is Image ads. This allows you to get your message across on what you want to say but make it into an image so the chance of duplicate content only lies in the link to your image which you can easily rename the image over and over and re upload it to photobucket or where ever you are hosting your image.
I like using the FREE version of Jing & Screencast because it allows me to take a snapshot of whatever I want and upload it instantly to screencast for a unique image link…
I did this image below 100% with Jing and a Word Document for the text… Even the little Arrow….
Craigslist Tips #2 Post Locally
Another reason you are getting ghosted on craigslist is the IP address of your internet is not matching the city or state that you are trying to post in. If you try to post in a city you do not live in you will run into this IP address issue and craigslist may say your ads are up, but in reality they ghost it!
So the solution is to post in your local city. Even if you only get 2 leads that is still something. Do it consistently and 2-5 leads a day can dramatically help your business…
Now there are ways to post in other cities if you have IP changing software. I personally have one if you opt in to my email list on the top right of this blog I will tell you the exact IP software I use…
Craigslist Tips #3 No Fancy Titles Or Ads
We have all been taught that we should stand out in our marketing. So people put fancy Stars, special characters in their titles and really fancy image ads. Now this may be the right thing to do in other online marketing methods but with Craigslist, it's not anymore. They actually have a staff of people who's only job is to find ads that look “hypey” and not real and flag them to take them down. So if you stand out with fancy titles they will click on you first, then go to your webpage and if it's some kind of business opportunity in the job section, they will take it down…
So yes you will get more visitors by having fancy ads and titles but you will also get flagged and taken down super fast too. I would rather have an ad that stays up and gets me traffic all day long then one that is only up for 1 hour!
Wrap it up!

Great tips Mike Hobbs……I will be implementing ;).
Good stuff Mike – Thanks for sharing! Here's a sneaky little trick….When I do a plain text copy ad, and I want to use the same ad with little to no variation, I'll post a different quote at the bottom of the ad, each time it's posted The ad appears to be different on their end because of the quote, but it's still the same message on my end. I've had people actually tell me they replied to the ad because of the quote alone! (lol)
Nice! Sounds like a good thing to try out!
Nice info. here Mike. I would suggest this anyone. I have used some of this and it works!
Are you able to renew your Craigslist ads when you use an IP changing tool like HMA, since it gives you a different IP every time you go back to use it?
I'll put these CL tips to good use… Thanks!
Thanks for sharing Mike. I always learn something from your posts.
I find that my image ads get ghosted more often than my text ads. I spend a lot of time writing unique text ads.
Should I renew a ghosted ad? Any chance it will go live after the renewal?
Great tips Mike . thanks for your post .
