As I plan for a company event this weekend, I wanted to give you some tips, no matter what company you are in, on how to get the most out of these marketing events.
It doesn’t matter if it is internet marketing events or if it is a company specific event. I believe that if you use these tips you are going to get more out of the event.
Marketing Events – How to Get the Most Value
You should get to as many marketing events as you possibly can, whether it is an industry event or company specific event.
First, you learn from the speakers and presenters how to be more effective in your communication and presentations.
Second, you meet the people that you are working with, which is the key to building a long term business. You can sit behind a computer and build a business, but when you haven’t met these people in person, it is hard to stick with it long term. When you go to events and meet the people you are working with, you want to stay and work with them.
Third, when you attend marketing events, you know that it is real. For example, I had someone email me once: “I am trying to connect with this guy named Toby and I don’t even know if he exists. Does he exist?” I replied and said, “Of course he exists. I met him; I shook his hand in person last week. Did you make it to that event?” Events are crucial.
How do you get the most out of these marketing events?
1. Do videos with your team.
Give your team exposure and build them up to be rock stars. If you don’t have a team yet, do videos with your up-line. Go crazy with videos. The exposure you are going to get from doing simple videos with your team will build excitement. It will provide content for you to use later on in your marketing.
2. Take notes!
I am taking my journal to this marketing event. I went to the last event and forgot to take my journal. I was writing on post-it notes. You don’t take notes because you want to learn. Obviously you want to learn, but here is my perspective on why you take notes and why I get the most out of every event and you can too. When you are taking notes, take them from a marketer’s perspective. How can you give value to the marketplace with these notes?
Go to the event as a marketer instead of just sitting there trying to absorb everything. You will get more out of the training when you think about it from a marketing perspective. You will hear something that you consider to be basic at the marketing event. The truth is, probably 90% of the world population has never heard it before. Take notes from a marketer’s point of view and jot down blog and video ideas. This is how I get all of my video ideas. When I walk out of an event, I have at least 60 video ideas – content that could carry me through the next 60 days.
3. Do interviews.
When other leaders are willing, ask them one or two top questions in a video interview. These work really well for your marketing.
(Have you noticed that I am talking a lot about marketing here? I don’t use these events just to go… I use them to market!)
4. Think of the best take-aways from each day.
Think of the top take away that you get each day. Make it a blog post the day-of or as soon as possible. Shoot a quick video or type it out, even if it is 2 a.m. When you post it on Facebook or your blog and e-mail it to your list, they want to be there too. By sharing what you learn, you are giving value to people.
5. Photos.
Get pictures taken with all the leaders. Get pictures with your team and down-line. When you are doing shared marketing or sharing an email with your list, you will have a photo of yourself and the leader. Now it shows that we are working as a team. Don’t just get pictures to get pictures. Get pictures for marketing purposes. People will see how active you are, they will want to follow you and make money with you.
Bonus Idea: You can go outside at marketing events and take advantage of the lifestyle background for capture page videos. I was in Miami a couple of months ago and shot a video on a sailboat. I got more views on that video than all my other videos! Take advantage of marketing events.
When you follow these tips, you will get more value and make more money from marketing events than you ever spend getting there!

Hi Mike,
I just joined Empower 3 weeks ago and I am on the Prosperity Team. Thanks for the excellent tips before going to the “event” in Denver. This will be my first Empower conference and your insight is much appreciated. Being a vice president of a mining company, I have atended many conferences, some with as many as 25,000 attendees, but not with the intention of using it as a marketing tool. I was going there to takes tons of notes and learn about the company but now, with your insightful video, I will be attending the conference with a different perspective. Hopefully I can get a picture witth you…LOL!!!
All the best,
Bill
Hi Mike,
Just joined Empower about 3 weeks ago and I am a member of the Prosperity Team. Thanks for the great insight on how to maximize the experience of attending one of these events for marketing purposes. I am a vice president of a mining company and have attended many events, with some having as many as 25,000 attendees, but not with the idea of using the event for building a business. I was going there to take all the notes I could about the the company but know I will look at this event in a different light. Hopefully I will have a chance to have a picture with you…LOL.
All the best,'.
Bill
