I want to talk about how important self-confidence is today.
Self-confidence applies to pretty much anything you do in your life…
…especially your success in the home-based business industry.
Self Confidence – Hitting a Hurdle
I ran track my senior year in high school.
It was one of the best experiences of my life, and it also taught me how important self-confidence is.
There is a particular track meet that I remember vividly. I did the 100 meter hurdles in this track meet…
We had two races, that determined the winner of the whole thing.
The first race, they timed everyone and took the top eight people to move on to the second…
The second race, the eight winners from the first race competed for the top three.
I had so much confidence in the very first race that we did.
When they said GO. I went over every hurdle, I went through the finish line, and I got my time.
Because I was super confident, super motivated and excited to run that race… I placed in the top eight…
Then, we had the final meet. At this point, my shins started acting up, I was having a little bit of shin splints.
I started having a little bit of doubt in my mind. My confidence started going down a little bit.
I remember a thought before we got onto the start line.
The thought was: “Man, I hope I don’t screw this up. I hope I don’t hit the hurdle in the middle of it.”
Then other negative thoughts came into my mind:
- My mom is watching.
- There are a whole bunch of my friends up there watching.
- I don’t’ want to mess this up.
- I don’t want to hit a hurdle.
I started a silent prayer: “Please don’t hit the hurdles, please don’t hit the hurdles. I've got to get through this. I’ve got to at least get in the top three, right?”
That was my goal, to at least hit top three.
Here is what happened. Because my confidence was a little bit lower…
The first round, I jetted through it, didn't have any doubts whatsoever.
The second round I had that little lingering doubt, that lingering thing in the back of my mind,
and guess what happened?
They said GO, and BAM!
The second hurdle, I hit it with my knee. Not only did I hit it with my knee…
…I BROKE the Hurdle with my knee!
I fell down, and I got back up and I actually finished seventh. I still beat one guy in the track meet.
I wanted to tell that story, because that shows you…
I had that lingering thought, and I just kept thinking about it…
I wasn’t as confident on the second round.
If I had just had the same self-confidence in that second race…
Who knows what I would have done?
I still beat at least one person after breaking through a hurdle. I literally broke it!
It taught me a very important lesson… not to linger on negative thoughts.
Self-Confidence – Taking Action to Improve
Here is another self-confidence example:
When I started out doing videos, it took me like 20 or 30 times to do a video.
Is that okay? Yeah! because I started off just taking action.
Now, I can do a video in one take. When I do a video or a webinar I don’t make a lot of mistakes any more. A lot of it comes out of the subconscious now, because I’ve just been doing it daily, consistently.
But, when I first started, I didn’t have self-confidence like that. It took me 20 or 30 times until I developed self-confidence in my videos and in myself, and that’s when I started getting better.
Self-Confidence – Think and Grow Rich
Now, there are some solutions here on how you can develop that self-confidence.
In the book “Think and Grow Rich,” there is a self-confidence formula.
It really is built on FAITH.
If you have FAITH that the business will work…
If you have FAITH that you can do the videos, or whatever you want to do…
You will have more self-confidence into attaining that!
There is a Self-Confidence Formula that we read every day, along with our Major Definite Purpose.
The bottom line is…
You have to have self confidence in order to succeed in this business.
You have got to believe it’s going to work.
You have got to be confident.
If you are constantly focusing on the negative, or focusing on how you’re not getting sales.
Guess what?
You’re going to hit that hurdle just like I did.
When you focus on the negative, you get negative results.
When I was focusing on not hitting that hurdle, I hit it!
When you focus on not getting sales, you are not going to have sales.
When you focus on the positive, you get positive results.

Mike, Awesome article. I’ve got one to share. Last summer our building and grounds committee decided to raise some money for our church for repairs and improvements. The committee needed a leader to run the campaign, so with hesitation I agreed along with a co director. And since I’ve never done any fundraising in my life I felt way out of my league and out of my comfort zone. We had a plan tho, follow a program designed by professional fundraisers, be positive in our messages, recruit a lot of help, and pray for God’s will. Fast forward to today, I’m having a lot fun, getting to know a lot of folks I barely knew, learning a lot about fundraising relationships, and after 3 weeks of formal pledging, we’ve achieved almost one half of our 7 figure goal. This is due to exactly what you wrote above. Thinking positive, taking action, and following a plan. In addition, doing the right thing, treating people well and thanking them, and of course looking to God for direction, has made this a high point in my life. Thanks for posting Mike. God Bless you, with kindest regards, Harv
