Traffic Exchanges Fail Because…
Being in the home based business profession, and successfully marketing online for about five years, I get questions like this one:
“I am working on my business, I am doing marketing, but I am not getting results. What should I be doing, Mike?”
Typically I ask, “Well, what kind of marketing are you doing right now?” You would be surprised, but a lot of the people that are brand new say traffic exchanges.
So, I want to talk about traffic exchanges today. Is a traffic exchange effective? Are traffic exchanges useful? Do traffic exchanges waste your time and money?
Here is the answer: Traffic exchanges fail because the way 99.9% of people do traffic exchanges is ineffective.
The reason I know this, is because traffic exchanges is one of the methods I used when I first got started online. So, I relate to the people that start with traffic exchanges.
Traffic Exchanges Fail Because…
A traffic exchange is a website where you put your website in a membership area. Other people put their websites in the membership area and you all trade views.
You search 20 websites a day and in return, you get people looking at your website every day.
It is basically just a big membership of people all looking at each others websites. Those are the views you are getting, or exchanging. You stay on a website for 20 seconds in order to get someone else to stay on your website for 20 seconds.
Traffic Exchanges fail because most people don’t understand how it works, and they do it completely wrong.
I don’t do traffic exchanges any more even though I actually got to the point where I was getting about a 1% opt in rate. For those of you that know about traffic exchanges, you know how rare it is to get any leads at all from traffic exchanges. It wasn’t worth my time investment to keep it going.
Traffic Exchanges Fail Because…
This is What Most People Do
I am going to share my strategy with those of you that DO want to continue doing traffic exchanges.
Traffic exchanges fail because… Here is what most people do: They just throw their company website on a traffic exchange and expect someone to join. Here is the bad thing about that – everybody else does the same thing!
Think about it! Traffic exchanges fail because the reason someone joins a traffic exchanges is to promote their business, not to look at other people’s businesses. The people in traffic exchanges have complete blinders and blocks on. They are waiting their 20 seconds to click “next” so that they can get traffic to THEIR business. They don’t want another business, my friends. So, just throwing your website up there is not effective. That is why everybody fails at it.
I have moved onto bigger and better things, and you can find out more about that by clicking The Prosperity Team banner below.
Traffic Exchanges Fail Because…
People Don't Use This Strategy
When I was doing traffic exchanges, here is what I did, and it actually worked to get about a 1% opt in rate.
#1. Create a Personal Capture Page
I probably just disqualified 70% of the people reading this, because you don’t know how to create your own personal capture page. There is a learning curve to creating your own capture page, even with tools that help you to do it. Traffic exchanges fail because most people don’t create their own capture pages.
Traffic exchanges fail because… When you use a capture page from someone else that doesn’t target this particular audience, guess what? It doesn’t work and you won’t make any money with it. I’ve proven it and thousands of other people have proven that it doesn’t work.
I had a quick, 20 to 30 second video on the capture page. Why? In a traffic exchange, someone is only on your page for 20 to 30 seconds. I put the video on auto play, so that is another thing you need to learn to do.
#2. Targeting
Most people pitch their business, right? Set yourself apart. You shouldn’t pitch your business opportunity right here. You take this 20 to 30 second video and you think – who exactly is watching this video?
Here are the people that are watching your video on a traffic exchange: other home business people promoting their business! If you understand your target audience, what should you offer these people?
Give away something that can help someone in another business. Even better, give them a boot camp or a video telling them how to effectively promote traffic exchanges. This video, for example, is a good video to give away to people that are doing traffic exchanges.
See what I mean? That is one thing you could do, or you could talk about lead generation.
Here is one way that I did it. I talked directly to the person surfing.
“Hey, I know you are surfing on this website so that you can generate more leads online. I want to share with you a strategy that is unbelievably easy to do and you can generate more leads than you ever have before. Just put your email on this page. In fact, it will just go into your inbox so that you can continue surfing today and then you can go back and check your inbox later for this strategy. Put your email below, and I will shoot you over the free report.”
Give away a free report, video or a training from someone else on your team.
The cool thing is, once they get your training, that is where you give them the value. It can be something as simple as a Facebook strategy. You don’t have to tell them what it is, you just have to say you have a way to help them.
Underneath the video, say: “Hey, want to lock arms with us? Join our team below.”
That is one of the most effective ways to build a traffic exchange.
Traffic Exchanges Fail Because…
Members Aren't Using a Value Based Strategy
Number one, you are creating a personalized capture page with a 20 second video that is grabbing their attention because you are talking directly to them.
Number two, you are targeting them with something of value that can help their business because you understand that they are not interested in your business right now.
Maybe later on, when they find out that you are giving value, that you are training, and learn that you have a great team, they will want to join you in whatever business that you are doing.
Keep in mind; this traffic exchange strategy will only work 1% or less on your capture page. Think about the time investment. Create your capture page, but you should consider outsourcing the activity of surfing websites because it is not a very good use of your time. If you do outsource, this could be a lead generation for you. And yes, the people on those traffic exchanges need help too!
I hope this training is of value to you. I am not endorsing traffic exchanges, because I know that traffic exchanges fail because 99.9% of people that use them aren't using a value based strategy. However, when I was doing them using this technique, I was getting a 1% opt in rate, and then was able to move on to bigger and better things.
Feel free to use this technique. Let me know by commenting below if this has helped you, especially if you start implementing this. Come back to this video and let us know your results!

Thanks for the info on the capture pages, I have been using capture pages also and you are right they do work well.
When it comes to Traffic Exchanges, you'll find a certain programs that have teams of People that pool together resources in some way and have a membership site that advertises everyone's biz-op links in a URL rotator so the new people to the group may join some or all of your programs, or etc….I find when surfing Traffic Exchanges, I'm most attracted to these kind of programs but don't know which is good….there have been programs like these that have long running claims and it seems they may be overlooked because their sites don't look as sophisticated…have you used any of these type of programs? I suppose instead of a biz-op link, you could put your blog URL in some of them as well…I'm still sifting through all this because you do have to be careful—the good news is a lot of these kind of Teams that rove Traffic Exchanges and safelists often start at a low price point…Did you use any of these programs?
